We can’t do this without you!

Just Giants is made up entirely of volunteers. Without volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to save any dogs! It’s pretty simple—the more volunteers we have, the more dogs we can help.

Just Giants Rescue has loads of opportunities to volunteer and we always appreciate the help! Aside from general day-to-day rescue operations, we have several long-term and short-term volunteer opportunities available.

You don’t have to be able to foster to help out—we have so many projects that need helpers. Remember, if you have a skill set that you think could benefit the rescue, don’t hesitate to apply to volunteer.

Take a look at just a few of the ways you can get involved in our rescue organization. For a list of specific volunteer positions that are currently available, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator. For all other general volunteer opportunities, read below.

Tactical Volunteers

JGRI has a number of quick and easy ways to volunteer for people who are looking to contribute in a moderate fashion.

  • Fundraising Events – set-up or take-down, man the registration table, hand out fliers and general help at fundraising events (events involving alcohol are for ages 21+ only).
  • Clerical tasks – volunteer from home! Make phone calls, send emails, stuff and mail envelopes, update spreadsheets and other office-related tasks.
  • Transportation – pick-up and drop-off animals for spay/neuter clinics, dog food donations, and other donations as needed.
  • Children ages 12-18 may volunteer for appropriate events if accompanied by an adult.

Committees

Fundraising

Every non-profit needs a Fundraising Team. Just Giants Rescue relies entirely on donations and fundraising events to make our rescue operation a success. The Fundraising Committee comes up with ideas for events to meet our fundraising goals and gets to work making them happen! Whether you’d rather brainstorm or just volunteer to run errands, we’re always looking for people to help make our events a success.

Grant Writing

Grants are available for non-profits through large and small companies alike, and we apply for grants from businesses across the country. These organizations require extensive applications and we are seeking a few experienced writers who want to volunteer their time and skills to fill them out.

Communications

We need volunteers to help us get the word out! This committee of volunteers is responsible for marketing and advertising, public relations, distributing press releases, updating our media list, promoting Just Giants Rescue at events and increasing general awareness among our rescued communities.

Education

An integral part of our mission is to educate children and communities about proper pet care as well as the importance of spaying and neutering. We also have a Junior Volunteer program for students.  If you are interested in helping with the education committee or the Junior Volunteer program, please fill out a volunteer application for minors.

Intake (Operational)

We need volunteers to monitor foster space, evaluate dogs for placement into rescue and provide a liaison between the foster homes and surrendering parties. Temperament is the primary consideration for taking a dog into rescue.

Foster (Operational)

Fostering an animal can be one of the most rewarding things you do. The dogs that Just Giants rescues come to us from shelters, animal control facilities and even owners who decide to surrender their pet. We don’t always know what their history is and most often the dogs are scared and sometimes shy. Many of these animals have never been given any love, training or medical treatment until they are brought into our foster care program. For more information about fostering please visit our page about fostering with JGRI.

Adoptions (Operational)

Replying to adoption inquiries, screening applications and conducting home checks are among this committee’s responsibilities. Only the very best homes are able to adopt one of our Giants and we need people to help us find them.

Just Giants Rescue (JGRI) receives a large number of phone calls and emails begging us to take a dog in need of rescuing. Often, we must reluctantly turn animals away simply because we don’t have a foster home available. Our foster homes are vital in helping animals find their forever homes. Without their hard work and dedication, JGRI could not save, rehabilitate and adopt the hundreds of homeless dogs we take in every year.

JUST GIANTS RESCUE WILL:
  • Supply a crate for housebreaking the foster pet.
  • Pay for all necessary veterinary care, as well as heartworm & flea/tick preventative.

  • Provide opportunities for exposure to potential adopters.
  • Provide mentoring and moral support throughout fostering.
 FOSTER HOME DUTIES:

  • Socialization – daily walks, trips to the pet store, etc.
  • Basic day-to-day care – feeding, grooming, exercise.
  • Basic obedience: including housebreaking using positive reinforcement methods. Training can be provided upon request.
  • Provide transportation to and from veterinarian appointments.

  • Foster Mentor – Your one-on-one contact for all things foster-related

The length of time an animal is in foster care can vary greatly. Sometimes (usually with puppies) they will be adopted out in a few weeks. Other times it may take a few months! We really have no way of knowing, but we do our best to make sure each and every foster animal goes to the perfect home. What we do ask is that our foster homes make the commitment to keep their foster dog until their forever home can be found. The reason we ask for this commitment is that we do not want them to be bounced around from foster home to foster home. Dogs that have this happen become very unsure of themselves and usually display this with behavior that is less than desirable. If special circumstances arise, we are willing to work with you. If you aren’t sure you can have a dog for a longer period of time, we are also always in need of “vacation fosters,” or temporary fosters who can take care of a foster animal if/when the animal’s current foster needs to go out of town.

JGRI usually has at least two adoption events per month. We require our animals to go to at least one event per month if logistically possible (the more exposure, the more chances of them finding their forever homes!). We do prefer the foster parent to be at the events. That way prospective adopters can talk directly to you to get a better idea of behaviors, habits, likes, dislikes, etc.

While a JGRI animal is being fostered in your home, our Placement Coordinator will contact you about scheduling a mutually convenient time for potential adopters to visit, whether at your home or another convenient location. This allows adopters the chance to play and interact with the dog to see if they are “the one.” All in all, you supply the love and TLC and we supply all the medical treatment and support you need.
